Description
Requirement: UCSC 137 for students admitted to Loyola University for Fall 2012 or later. No requirement for students admitted to Loyola prior to Fall 2012 or those with a declared major or minor in the Department of Anthropology, Department of Biology, Department of Chemistry, Department of Environmental Science, Department of Physics, Bioinformatics, Forensic Science or Neuroscience.

Liberal Arts Biology is a second tier core course in the area of Scientific Literacy. It covers fundamental principles of biological sciences at a level for non-science majors. The focus of the course will vary depending on expertise of the instructor. All instructors will address the same fundamental principles.

Outcomes: Students understand the scientific method, diversity of life, classification of organisms, cell structure and function, the chromosomal and molecular basis of inheritance, and organ systems of the human body.

This is a Science Core course. It is a non-majors course and does not count as Biology credit. This course is the same course and formerly known as Biology through Art. View microorganisms, use DNA as an artistic medium, draw with glowing bacteria, create music based on DNA and protein sequence, and create a biological self portrait.
