Spiritual Direction Certificate Praxis II for Contextual Ed
IPS 587 is the second semester of the Spiritual Direction Certificate supervised practicum sequence. Students continue providing spiritual direction with directees, deepen their competence through structured supervision, and complete remaining benchmarks for the certificate practicum (approximately 50 total directee contact hours across IPS 586 and IPS 587). The course culminates in the student's leadership of a silent or spiritual direction retreat and in a final integrative self-assessment of readiness for ongoing practice. Students submit a concise praxis portfolio that documents learning, supervision engagement, ethical practice, and next steps for continued formation.
Outcomes: Demonstrate sustained, ethically grounded spiritual direction practice and complete required directee contact hours with accurate documentation and supervisor verification; Synthesize supervisory feedback across the year to articulate an emerging personal approach to spiritual direction and areas for continued development; Evaluate spiritual direction practice using advanced verbatim reflection that integrates theological/spiritual insight, self-awareness, and practical skill refinement; Plan and lead at least one silent or spiritual direction retreat and assess its effectiveness using participant feedback and self-evaluation; Create a final praxis portfolio that evidences competence, vocational commitment, and a realistic plan for continued supervision and professional/ministerial growth.
