Administration and Entrepreneurship in a Pastoral Context
This course equips students with essential management and leadership skills tailored for pastoral and nonprofit settings. Topics include project financing, budgeting, fundraising, grant writing, safeguarding policies, team building, volunteer management, and meeting coordination. Emphasizing an entrepreneurial approach, students will explore innovative strategies for developing, executing, and sustaining pastoral projects and initiatives that meet community needs. The course fosters a balance between practical skills and visionary leadership, preparing students to manage resources effectively while fostering a mission-driven, entrepreneurial spirit within faith-based and nonprofit settings.
Outcomes: Critically evaluate management and leadership approaches for pastoral and nonprofit initiatives using case-based analysis that accounts for financial, operational/logistical, safeguarding, and human-resource realities; Produce a strategic plan for a pastoral initiative that includes (a) a project scope and goals, (b) a budget, (c) a financing/fundraising or grant strategy, (d) a staffing/volunteer plan, and (e) an implementation timeline with basic success indicators; Facilitate effective team and volunteer coordination for a pastoral project by applying structured communication and conflict-management practices that support accountability, collaboration, and mission-aligned innovation.
