Adolescent Health Ethics

This course will provide an overview of ethical issues in adolescent health and a survey of some topics that are unique to the field. This will build on concepts addressed in Pediatric Ethics and discuss how ethical decisions may change as children develop physically and psychologically. Classes will be topic driven and will draw upon a variety of sources including recent articles on a range of topics within the field, videos and cases. The ethical questions that are unique to adolescents will serve as the organizing themes of the course.
Outcomes: Identify the unique ethical issues raised by adolescent patients; Understand how developing autonomy may impact healthcare decisions for adolescents distinct from children and adults; Consider the range of stakeholders involved in adolescent health care.
