Comparative American Literature 1700 - 1900
This course focuses on the study of U.S. literature and culture in relation to other literatures and cultures, with a focus on the period before 1700.

Outcomes: Students will demonstrate an ability to identify the formal and thematic features that, as literature, US writing shares with the literature of other cultures; Students will also demonstrate an ability to specify the formal and thematic features that, as an expression of and response to cultural forces particular to the US, differentiate US writing from that of other cultures.
