Japanese Art and Culture
An examination of the cultural background and major art forms of Japan from earliest times until the twentieth century.

Outcomes: Students will demonstrate knowledge of the philosophical and religious sources of the major art forms of Japan; They will recognize the dual formative influences of indigenous traditions and those of foreign origin in what becomes a uniquely Japanese adaptation and resolution of ideas expressed effectively either verbally or visually.
