Prose of The Golden Age
Prerequisite: permission of chairperson.

An approach to the picaresque, the pastoral novel and the essay with their concern with power and submission in everyday life. A study of the growing role of individual experience in fictional modes.

Outcomes: Students will recognize the confluence of different prose styles, and the creation of individual voices in fiction; They will also become familiar with emerging concerns with religious and scientific issues during the period.
