Description
Clinical Social Work with Older Adults
Prerequisites: Grade of C or higher in SOWK 500, SOWK 501, SOWK 502, SOWK 503, SOWK 504, SOWK 505, SOWK 509, and SWII 530S; P in SWII 530; or Advanced Standing Students, Advanced Standing Online Students, or 5 Year Social Work Students.

This course includes a review of the basic concepts of gerontology/geriatric practice, mental health issues, and interventions. The content of the course is intended to challenge students to move beyond basic levels of knowledge. It is intended to help students adapt social work theory (person-in-environment), practice principles, standards, and values to practice with older adults.

Outcomes: Identify basic concepts of gerontology and geriatric practice; Apply the person-in-environment theory and the principles, standards, and values of social work to practice with older adults.
