Feminist Philosophies

This course will examine a variety of philosophical frameworks for thinking about gender, sexuality, the problems of sexism, and proposed solutions to those problems. Students will explore the complexity and diversity of feminist thought by examining many different feminist philosophies including liberal, radical, cultural, Marxist/socialist, existentialist, postmodern, ecological, and indigenous perspectives.

Outcomes: Students will demonstrate competence in the terminology, concepts, methodologies and theories used by feminist philosophers; Students will learn to analyze feminist philosophies from multiple perspectives and will develop reasoned solutions to problems; Students will learn to communicate knowledge, ideas, and reasoning clearly and effectively in written or oral forms.
