China Since 1949: The People's Republic
This course examines the attempt to create and foster the growth of a socialist state and society in China under the Chinese Communist Party, with attention to the steady transformation of society, the economy, and political life since 1949.

Outcomes: Students will be able to assess the major convulsive episodes such as land reform, the Great Leap Forward, the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, the Four Modernizations, and the impact and legacy of Mao Zedong.
