Description
Seminar in Teaching VI
The purpose of the Seminar in Teaching is to provide a mechanism for the development of a learning community composed of teacher candidates. The Seminar will provide an opportunity for teacher candidates to acquire a foundational knowledge base focusing on the tenets of good teaching and effective teaching strategies. Teacher candidates will also have the opportunity to reflect on their personal philosophies and beliefs about teaching, learning, and expectations about the students they will encounter.
The Seminar serves to prepare future teachers through a mentoring process by connecting teacher candidates with each other and with the university faculty and professional teacher practitioners through shared learning experiences, which include opportunities to observe and reflect on model teaching strategies and to explore research-based concepts that focus on helping students to become successful in their academic, personal, and social lives. The Seminar in Teaching focuses on the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills that define the teacher in both urban and suburban classrooms.
