This course is an introduction to the historical and theological reading of the various documents of early Christianity known as the New Testament.

Outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the literary genres found in the New Testament and explain why the recognition of genre is essential to the interpretation of the New Testament, as well as the importance of how the New Testament documents have reached their present state.

Asynchronous Class Meeting: All instruction for this section will be delivered online asynchronously. This course familiarizes students with the basic facts about the New Testament and introduces them to the fundamentals of contemporary New Testament research. We will analyze the books of the New Testament from a historical perspective, following the mainstream conclusions reached over the last two centuries and currently held by the majority of New Testament specialists (while also engaging with the dissenting views).
