Investigation of selected topics or methods in International Relations. This course may be repeated depending on subject matter.
Class Notes
This course explores both the foundational theories and the real-world practice of diplomacy, with a particular focus on U.S. diplomatic engagement. Students will begin by examining major theoretical approaches to diplomacy and then delve into the practice of diplomacy, introducing the tools, techniques, and tradecraft used by practitioners in the U.S. Foreign Service. Through case studies and simulations, students will gain insight into how diplomacy advances national interests, manages conflict, and fosters international cooperation in a complex global environment.
