Description
The development of the Hispanic short story is studies in this course. Authors included are Quiroga, Cortázar, García Márquez, Castellanos, Valenzuela, and Ferré.

Outcomes: Students will be able to contextualize the stories, analyze them both formally and thematically, and recognize the different types of short story written in Latin American: realist, fantastic, folkloric, indigenist, humorous, detective, metaphysical, social protest, feminist, etc.

Class Notes
This course examines various forms of Latin American "narrativas breves" through the lens of relevant critical perspectives. Graduate students are welcome to enroll, as are advanced undergraduates with instructor permission. Conducted entirely in Spanish.
