Class Notes
The doctrine of the Trinity offers a theoretical and practical framework to understand who God is and who humans are called to become in the image of God. Christian faith confesses a personal, communal, and loving God who is for us and for our salvation. Considering global conflicts and our growing recognition of creaturely diversity and interdependence, this doctrine has become a vital resource that contributes to engage theologically and critically ¿the signs of the times.¿ The triune life of God invites us to envision right relationship with God and our neighbors. It challenges the oppressive alienation that often arises from unchecked socio-political, economic, gender, sexual, ecological, psycho-physical, and racial experiences. This course explores the emergence and theological development of this doctrine. Biblical building blocks and theological contributions of central Christian voices that have informed the development of this doctrine from early Christianity to the modern period will guide our explorations. Special attention will be paid to contemporary liberating theological perspectives.
