Readings in Greek Literature I
Students study a selected range of masterworks in Greek literature. (This is a special topics course in ancient Greek.)
Outcomes: Students should be able to translate the selected works with proficiency and demonstrate deeper knowledge and understanding of them, their styles and possible interpretations.

This course will consist of an in-depth examination of the Greek text of the Gospel of Mark. Specific attention will be paid to philological, text-critical, historical, literary, and theological elements of the text. We will spend significant time (1) reading the Greek text of Mark together as a class, (2) discussing the distinctive features of Markan grammar and syntax, (3) undertaking a close reading of the narrative, and (4) interrogating Mark's theological contributions to early Christian writings and Christian theology.
