Description
This course is designed to assist students with identifying, analyzing, and evaluating health issues confronting the doctorally prepared nurse in the provision of population-focused health care. Epidemiologic concepts and databases will be covered in the context of population needs assessments. Evidence-based interventions that address health disparities will be examined.

Outcomes: 1) Analyze the role of federal, state, and local governments in population health; 2) Assess population specific health needs using Healthy People and the determinants of health as frameworks; 3) Examine the role of the World Health Organization and non-governmental organizations in population health; 4) Analyze health disparities and needs of priority populations using databases; 5) Apply epidemiologic concepts when completing a population needs assessment; 6) Examine evidence-based interventions for population specific health issues.
