Description
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing.

A survey course on a particular topic, such as aging, alcoholism and drug dependency, family process, group process, African-American men, gender, race, and culture.

Students will understand how these issues affect social work practice.

Pre-requisite: Sophomore standing or above.
Class Notes
Prerequisite: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing. This course is cross listed with SOWK 654, Practice in a Global and Cross Cultural Context. The course provides an introduction to human rights-oriented peace-building via social work practice in an international context, focusing on anti-oppressive practices around the world that use participatory and human rights-based approaches. Problems addressed include trauma treatment, environmental justice, preventing terrorism and genocide, global health, and advocating for human rights of persons with disabilities. The class occurs via Zoom video-conferencing in partnership with a classroom of students from around the world in Eastern Europe, making it possible for students to develop cross-cultural awareness, carry out projects together, and learn about other countries through personal dialogue. Synchronous Class Meeting: Instruction will be delivered online synchronously following the days/times indicated on the schedule.
