Description
Traces the evolution of independent filmmaking in the U.S, from the pioneering cinema of Maya Deren and John Cassavetes to seminal works of Spike Lee, Kelly Reichardt, and Barry Jenkins.

Prerequisites: COMM 274.

Outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge what constitutes a genre and the varied approaches used to analyze films within the context of genre studies.
