Description
This course focuses on principles and concepts of measurement in nursing research. Psychometric theory, measurement frameworks and instrument development, critique, and testing are addressed. Methods for generating and evaluating reliability and validity evidence are emphasized and operationalized. Ethical concerns related to the development and use of measuring instruments are examined.

Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1) Understand key principles and concepts of psychometric theory and measurement frameworks; 2) Differentiate between reliability and validity as evidence to support the use of a measure; 3) Apply statistical techniques in the generation of reliability and validity evidence; 4) Evaluate the suitability of measuring instruments for use in nursing research; 5) Understand principles and approaches to instrument development and testing; 6) Understand ethical issues related to instrument development, testing, and usage.

Prerequisite: GNUR 512 & GNUR 513 (B- or higher) & Graduate Nursing
