Externship - Intensive Field Placement - Chicago (1-3)
Skills, Live Client Experience
Students enrolled in the JD program who have completed all required first year courses may apply for an externship at an approved field placement site. Certain field placements may limit eligibility to students who have completed certain course work or who have obtained their Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 license. Students in the externship program may earn 2 or 3 hours of non-graded credit for supervised work performed at an approved field placement site. Students participating in the externship program are also enrolled in a contemporaneous and competency based seminar course. The classroom component of the course has been designed to complement the legal work performed by the student in the field. The focus of the seminar course is on professional identity formation, professional skills, ethics, and cultural competence. The goal of the course is to assist students as they transition to the practice of law. There is no final examination in this course. This course is offered each semester.
