Description
This class will explore the evolution of Telemedicine to Telehealth. It will begin by describing the legal and regulatory framework which governs all Telehealth encounters and the reimbursement and coverage parity issues which have, for years, limited growth in this critical aspect of health care. The course will also cover the impact of state licensing compacts, the challenges associated with technology, HIPAA and privacy concerns and how Telehealth can serve to reduce health care disparities and issues associated with access to needed health care services for geriatric and other patients.

Outcomes: Analyze the legal and regulatory landscape governing Telehealth, including the key laws, policies, and guidelines that shape Telehealth practice, and evaluate their impact on the growth and implementation of Telemedicine services; Evaluate the technological barriers and challenges that impact Telehealth, including issues related to connectivity, platform accessibility, and the integration of health information technologies and examine HIPAA regulations and privacy concerns in the context of Telehealth services; Examine the potential benefits and drawbacks of Telehealth in improving patient care, focusing on patient outcomes, continuity of care, and the quality of healthcare delivered remotely; Discuss the ethical issues surrounding Telehealth, including equity, informed consent, and the challenges of ensuring the security and confidentiality of patient information in virtual care settings; Propose strategies and solutions for overcoming the challenges faced by Telehealth, including addressing regulatory, technological, and access issues, and ensuring the equitable delivery of Telehealth services across diverse patient populations.
