Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete 26 credit hours to be eligible to enroll in 951, which is the final course in the program. Prerequisites for Health Law MJ students: Law 900, 901, 902, 903, 904,910 and required elective credits. Prerequisites for Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management MJ students: Law 900, 901, 803, 839, 929, and required elective credits.
MJ students are required to complete a written thesis, demonstrating scholarly research of an important legal issue. The thesis must be of a quality determined to be acceptable by the student's faculty advisor, reflecting mastery of the subject matter explored, critical thinking and clear, sophisticated writing. The thesis is completed over the course of two semesters in close cooperation with a faculty advisor. This thesis course will focus on topic selection, thesis creation, detailed outline, research methodology, introduction, writing a draft, completing the thesis project, & presenting the thesis defense to faculty & fellow students. This course is for students in the online MJ program.
Outcomes: Produce a final submission of publishable quality, demonstrating strong research, writing, and analytical skills; Conduct independent research, critically analyze data, and present their findings clearly and concisely in a scholarly thesis format; Receive and apply personalized feedback to make meaningful improvements in their writing and research processes; Engage with selected readings and resources to enhance their research and writing, tailoring their use based on individual needs and topics.
