Description
Prerequisites: This course is for students in the online LLM program. Students must successfully complete 20 credit hours to be eligible to enroll in 995, which is the final course in the program. Prerequisites for Health Law LLM students: Law 902, 903, 910 and required elective credits. Prerequisites for Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management LLM students: Law 839, 929, and required elective credits.

LLM students are required to complete a written thesis, demonstrating scholarly research of an important legal issue. The thesis must be of a quality determined to be acceptable by the student's faculty advisor, reflecting mastery of the subject matter explored, critical thinking, and clear, concise writing. The thesis is completed within your final semester in close cooperation with a faculty advisor. This thesis course will cover all the vital parts of a thesis which includes topic selection, thesis creation, detailed outline, research methodology, introduction, writing a draft, completing the thesis project, and presenting the thesis defense to faculty and fellow students in a GLS program.

Outcomes: Develop focused, original research topic in partnership with the thesis supervisor that aligns with academic interests and scholarly standards, demonstrating potential for academic contribution and publication; Create comprehensive research plan in collaboration with the thesis supervisor, outlining clear research questions, methodologies, and a timeline that supports the completion of a publishable paper; Execute independent research through the selection of appropriate methodologies, critical analysis of existing literature, and data gathering to address defined research questions; Apply critical thinking to the work, with integration of supervisor feedback to refine and strengthen the research findings, methodology, and overall structure, enhancing the clarity and depth of the paper.
