Description
Students will learn how to utilize business plans, strategy, governance structures, organizational policy, and persuasion to develop and implement successful strategic plans. The course will cover the essential elements of the strategic planning process including: defining mission, vision, and core values; conducting a SWOT analysis; defining and engaging with constituent groups; knowing current benchmarks and setting realistic KPIs; executing an approved plan by utilizing a Racy Charts responsibility matrix; determining who¿s accountable, consulted and informed. The course will address leveraging current governance structures and defining new needed structures; aligning the strategic plan with financial planning and goals of the organization; engaging key partners and groups in the strategic development process and obtain proper buy-in; partnering with HR on the planning process; successfully implementing a plan by communicating progress, monitoring KPIs and navigating challenges and obstacles. Emphasis will be placed on the impact of culture and climate of an organization, and facilitating conversations and agreement.

Prerequisite: Open to students in the MPS in Information Technology Leadership and Strategy program (ITLS-MPS).

Outcomes:
1) Describe the role of organizational mission, vision and values and the impact of organization culture and climate on strategic plan development.
2) Align strategic planning with financial planning and organizational goals.
3) Develop and execute a strategic plan for a specific scenario or context, including conducting a SWOT analysis, setting goals and KPIs and addressing implementation challenges.
