This course will study literary masterpieces, in translation, of a selected culture or nation.

Outcomes: Students will gain an appreciation of the literary masterpieces of another culture or nation

This course focuses on a variety of literary texts that capture the changing nature of Polish American experience and examines the ways that Polish American writers have explored questions of identity against a range of issues such as immigration, assimilation, class and gender. The class format encourages students to analyze literature critically and to engage in a broad scope of discussion on the history and culture of Poland and Polish America as well as literary criticism, immigration studies, and gender studies. This is a writing intensive class. A grade of C- or better in UCWR 110 is required to enroll.
