Description
Prerequisites: BIOL 102 and (MATH 132 or MATH 162 or MATH 162A (MATH 162 may be taken as a pre- or co-requisite)). For Bioinformatics Majors only: BIOL 101 and (MATH 132 or MATH 162 or MATH 162A (MATH 162 may be taken as a pre- or co-requisite)).

This course provides an introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics in the biological sciences. Topics include data visualization, probability, discrete and continuous probability distributions, confidence intervals, t-tests, tests of proportions, chi-square tests, correlation, linear regression and ANOVA. Contemporary computer software will be used to apply the methods.

Outcomes: Students will be able to visualize data appropriately, to properly design a statistical experiment, to apply the correct statistical methods and properly analyze the results.
