Description
This course provides an introduction to statistical reasoning and techniques in descriptive and inferential statistics and their applications. All foundational mathematics topics necessary for college level Statistics will be reviewed and reinforced throughout the course. Topics will include: data collection processes (observational studies, experimental design, sampling techniques, bias), descriptive methods using quantitative and qualitative data, bivariate data, correlation, least squares regression, probability theory, probability distributions (normal distributions and normal curve, binomial distribution), confidence intervals, hypothesis tests using p-values.

Outcomes: Students will develop the skills necessary to compute, compare and analyze numbers; obtain a background in the fundamentals of descriptive and inferential statistics; develop the skills necessary to analyze graphs and data sets; develop the algebra skills necessary to calculate descriptive statistics measurements; and explain the use of data sets and statistics as tools to reach reasonable conclusions.
