Special Topics Course: Strategic Equity and Inclusion
Course Description
As part of creating an environment that is inclusive and equitable, organizations must think strategically. It is not enough to understand bias or disparities and pledge to create initiatives, programs and do trainings on topics that are current or top-of-mind. Developing a strategy for sustainable change has the potential to create organizational cultures that thrive because of its inclusive and equitable nature. Utilizing principles of Strategy, Organizational Change Management, and effective Leadership practices, organizations have the potential to drive sustained change in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices, meeting organizational goals.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- develop an understanding of strategic and systems thinking,
- be exposed to DEI foundations, frameworks and models for DEI program development and implementation,
- understand the importance of anchoring programs and plans with a strategic mindset,
- explore approaches to influencing the strategic priorities of the organization.
Learning Outcomes
Participants are exposed to tools and frameworks that aid the development of a strategic DEI plan for an organization. As an experiential seminar, participants have an opportunity to build the components to a strategic plan that can be further developed and implemented within an organization. The seminar provides an opportunity for participants to broaden perspective, understand organizational differences, and leverage the knowledge of each cohort member during the process.
