Nature in Literature
Prerequisites: UCLR 100, UCLR 100C, UCLR 100E, UCLR 100M, or equivalent; please check requirements for declared majors/minors for exceptions.
This course focuses on the relationship of human beings and the environment in which they function, as represented in a variety of literary works.
Outcomes: students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the representations of ""nature"" in various periods of literary history and diverse cultural contexts.

This is a writing intensive class. A grade of C- or better in UCWR 110 is required to enroll.
In this course we will use a number of different Ecocritical approaches, with a particular focus on Ecofeminism, to explore and interpret pieces of fiction and non-fiction, analyzing and contextualizing the constructs of rights and responsibilities within our ecological imaginations. This course is cross-listed with WSGS and is writing intensive. Assignments in the semester will include writing papers, peer reviews, reading reflections, and classroom participation.
