Class Notes
What is theology? The broadest definition that we will use in this class is that theology is thinking about questions raised by and about religions. While we will touch on multiple different religious traditions, this course is an introduction to Christian theology with a strong emphasis on dialogue and facilitation. Thus, for the first half of the class we will explore multiple aspects central to Christianity, particularly focusing on four theological sources: scripture, tradition, reason, and experience. As your professor, I hope to give you some building blocks in the first half of the semester through lectures, group activities, and readings. I will also model techniques for facilitating in-depth group discussions. The second half of the class will be student-led and focus on learning how to facilitate controversial conversations on contemporary issues intersecting with Christian theology. Small groups of students will take turns each week facilitating group discussions.
